Edina Soccer Association couldn't exist without the help of our hundreds of volunteer coaches. Here is where you will find ESA-created training materials and practice plans plus many other resources from other sources. We hope you will find them useful.
We encourage ESA coaches to use available green space when possible to conduct practices. If you would like to reserve a marked field, please contact Edina Park & Recreation.

From Colette Montgomery, "Coaches, these links provide articles and lesson plans for anyone looking to organize and coach a team practice."
In an effort to increase concussion awareness and prevent concussion-related injuries, the state of Minnesota has recently passed a law that will require all coaches and officials of youth sports to receive initial online concussion prevention training and online training at least once every three calendar years thereafter. The required online training takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. For more information please visit our Concussion Prevention page.
Edina Soccer Association requires that all volunteer coaches, instructors, supervisors and referees complete the required online concussion prevention training module. Edina Soccer Association will not permit anyone who has not completed this training to coach an ESA team.

If you have ever thought about becoming a referee for our club, now is the time to do it! Our program, lead by our new assignor Daneen Goncalves and mentor coordinator Brian Koehler, have started new initiatives to make it easier for you to get involved!
1. New game assignment process
2. On-site mentors
This new program will offer ample opportunities to make great money while receiving exceptional training and mentorship as you dive into a new level in the soccer world. We will also provide letters of recommendations for exceptional referees in our program and offer referrals to work nearby and state tournaments.
If you want to find out more information; we are having a training session January 20th from 6-8 pm at the South View City Gym. Parents are welcome to attend. The first 30 minutes will be set aside to answer general questions about becoming a referee.
No need to register ahead of time - just show up!
It also helps make sure your child is interested in becoming a referee before committing to the season.
We will be focusing on the following skills:
No experience needed! Show up in clothes and shoes you can run in. You will be scrimmaging for part of the clinic. If you have a whistle and flags, bring those as well. You do not need to wear a referee uniform. Parents are welcome to stay.
There will be more clinics in the upcoming months; view the schedule at the link below:
More info will be posted here regarding referee registration, etc in the coming weeks.
Referees must be at least 12 years old. Adults are also welcome to join the program.
We hope you consider joining our great team of professional, fun referees!
