When are practices held?
Each individual coach determines when, and if, his or her team will have any practices. No player should be penalized for not attending a practice or game.

How are the Pre-K / Kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade games structured?
Each "game" is 60 minutes long. The first 30 minutes is devoted to "skills and drills", taught by trained instructors. The second half of the hour is devoted to playing. Each player is guaranteed to play at least half of that time. There are no scores or standings kept for these divisions. Goalies are NOT used.

How are the 3rd through 12th grade games structured?
These games are officiated by paid, certified referees and run from 40 to 50 minutes, depending on the division. Each player is guaranteed to play at least half the game, regardless of ability or attendance at previous games or practices.

Why are the 1st grade -12th grade games being played on smaller fields with fewer players on the field?
Smaller teams on smaller fields are a nationwide trend. It helps develop better foot skills and allows more touches with the ball for every player. These team sizes are our goal. We may have to adjust team sizes to handle the number of players that are signed up.

When will I find out which team my child will be on?
Rosters and schedules will be distributed to coaches at the Coaches Meeting, scheduled for Saturday, April 28th, 2012. Coaches will contact their team shortly after that. Please give the coaches time to contact you before you contact the Park and Recreation Department or the esasoccer@comcast.net. Our coaches are all volunteers and they are balancing the volunteer commitment with their other work and family commitments.

General Questions

Can I request that my child be on the same team as another child?
Due to the large number of requests that we receive, it is possible to honor mutual play with requests only. Siblings in the same division will be placed on the same team and still be able to request to play with another child. However, the play with request will still have to be reciprocal. For example, if there are twin sisters both playing, each sister can request to play with a different friend. As long "sister A's" friend requests to play with "sister A", and "sister B's" friend requests to play with "sister B", the play with request can be honored.

What does the registration fee include?
The registration fee includes field usage fees, player and coach insurance fees, referee/instructors fees, uniforms and administrative costs.

Do I have to sign up for the house league if I want to try out for traveling?
Yes, since the Edina Soccer Association (ESA) and the Edina Soccer Club (ESC) are two different organizations. If you want to be assured of a spot for your child to play house soccer (ESA) if he or she does not make a traveling team (ESC), you must register during our registration period. If your child does make a traveling team your ESA registration fee will be refunded.
